FEASTS AND SEASONS

18 June 2024

2024 is the Centenary of the Library!

Also, the 150th Birthday of G K Chesterton. On 29 May 1874, Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born. He is special to the Library, for three reasons at least.

First and most importantly, we have the same vocation and tradition to seek the truth, and to nourish Christian and Catholic faith and culture.

Second, from the earliest days of the Library, we have had a very important and deep collection of works by and about Chesterton. A recent addition to the collection is “GK Chesterton, theologian”, by the very eminent theologian, Fr Aidan Nichols OP, who has himself visited and spoken at the Library.

Third, we celebrate our jubilees together – GKC is just precisely 50 years our senior – and we have had several joint celebrations. A few years back we had a dinner in honour of the 70th anniversary of his death. Watch for talks events with a GKC theme!

Corpus Christi, 2nd June 2024

This is the season when the Church celebrates the conclusion of the Lenten and Easter seasons – a quarter of the year- with the explicit celebration of the sacrament of the Body and blood of Christ, the “source and summit” of the Church’s life, as Vatican II taught in Sacrosanctum Concilium, its document on the liturgy.
